AIG Journal | Published by the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG)

AIG Journal was first published by AIG in February 1999.  The journal was re-launched in 2015 and is now on-line, with all previous content available for viewing or downloading, and open for new papers and short technical notes.

The publication of AIG Journal represents an important initiative for AIG in a number of ways.

Most people immediately associate geosciences with the mining or petroleum industries. In fact, geoscientists are employed in all areas of industry and government where a knowledge of processes which have and continue to shape the earth and the environment we live in is required, from resource-based industries to agriculture, environmental management and education. AIG draws its members from all fields in which geoscientists are employed. This creates enormous potential for sharing experiences, ideas and techniques across many disciplines, encouraging innovation and improvements in how we apply our training and skills every day. This journal provides a means by which at least some of this potential may be unlocked.

By sharing what we learn and promoting a better appreciation of what we do, each of us can contribute to the professional and technical development of our peers, help educators to guide students considering a career in geosciences, create increased employment opportunities by promoting Australian skills and techniques both at home and internationally, and improve the public perception of geosciences through more thorough understanding of their scope and many roles.
